Drivers in Missoula should plan for overnight traffic impacts beginning the week of July 27 as the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) resumes work on the Missoula Urban Pavement Preservation Project for its final phase.
The remaining work is expected to take approximately one week, weather permitting, and will consist of sweeping roadways and applying permanent epoxy pavement markings to streets that were resurfaced earlier this summer. Once the striping is complete, the project will officially conclude.
What drivers should expect
Construction will take place at night to reduce daytime traffic disruptions, but motorists should still expect:
- Temporary lane closures
- Reduced speed limits in work zones
- Flaggers or temporary traffic signals directing vehicles
- Overnight parking restrictions within construction areas
Officials are asking residents not to leave vehicles parked overnight along affected streets to avoid towing while crews complete the work.
Roads affected
Final pavement marking work will occur on these streets:
- Mullan Road (Frey Lane to Reserve Street)
- South Reserve Street (Brooks Street to 39th Street)
- South 3rd Street (Reserve Street to Russell Street)
- Toole Avenue
- Spruce Street
- Madison Street
- East Broadway Street
- Beckwith Avenue
Project nearly complete
The project has rehabilitated approximately 7 miles of pavement across Missoula. Earlier phases included crack sealing and chip seal treatments completed in June, improvements designed to extend pavement life, reduce future maintenance costs, and improve driving conditions on some of the city's busiest corridors.
"This is the last work that will take place as part of the Missoula Urban Pavement Preservation project," said MDT Engineering Project Manager Dennis Hart. "After we have finished applying the final epoxy pavement markings, work on the project will be complete."
