Montana’s statewide food bank working to end hunger through food distribution, education, and advocacy
Mission & Overview
MFBN is the only statewide food bank in Montana, serving more than 330 partner agencies across the state. Through food acquisition, distribution, advocacy, and community partnerships, MFBN works to ensure every Montanan has access to nutritious food. Its programs support seniors, children, families, rural households, Tribal communities, and local food pantries.

Child Nutrition Programs
Supporting children and families with healthy, accessible food options:
- BackPack Program: weekend meals for younger students
- School Pantry Program: snacks and groceries for middle & high school students
- School Breakfast support
- Summer Meals
- Summer EBT / SUN Bucks
- Benefits Access Hotline for SNAP, WIC, and EBT questions
Mail-a-Meal Program
Serving rural, remote, and low-population areas where no food assistance is available.
- 14 statewide drop sites
- Boxes designed for senior nutrition needs
- Home delivery available in some areas
Retail Food Rescue
MFBN partners with grocery stores and distributors to divert safe, nutritious food from waste to families. Accepted items include produce, meat, dairy, beverages, bakery items, and more. In 2024, more than 9.2 million pounds of food were rescued statewide.
Hunters Against Hunger
Montana hunters can donate legally harvested big game at authorized processors.

- Distributed through MFBN partners
- Supports access to high-quality local protein

MFBN advocates for policies that reduce hunger and strengthen nutrition programs:
- SNAP & WIC protection and expansion
- Statewide Food Security Council
- Tribal community partnerships
